Environmentally Friendly Ways to Upkeep Your Home

Written by Florena Davies

Thinking environmentally friendly is phenomenally important! We have compiled several ways to upkeep your home in a sustainable and friendly way.

Recycling is the number one and easiest way to stay environmentally friendly. Having a good recycling system in your home is essential to keep up this habit, it doesn’t have to take up a lot of space in your home and you can find trash cans and recycling all in one unit that would make life so much easier here. Recycle, reuse and donate anything you can as you go through your decluttering process. You would be surprised at the items I have posted on our local Buy Nothing page that people have picked up to reuse.

When you are in need, consider borrowing if it is an item you don’t need often. Often a friend or neighbor will be more than happy to lend you a chainsaw or hedge trimmer rather than you buying one that will only clutter up your space and if you only need it once in a while why buy it? Same with if it is something you might need more often again check your local buy nothing, thrift shops as well as marketplace. You never know what you may find at an incredible discount and it's best to reuse if at all possible, to reduce waste.

Using Refillable products such as soaps, water bottles, sandwich bags etc. is a very effective way to live environmentally friendly. It is extremely easy to make your own cleaners now, so this is another way that is another environmentally friendly way and a budget friendly way to live. You can find a great all purpose cleaning recipe from Wellness Mama Here, this will enable you to refill your cleaning bottle and use an environmentally friendly cleaner all in one step. You can buy at bulk shops and take your own jars/containers which will save on plastics and don’t forget to take your own reusable bags when you go. It seems these days just about everywhere charges for bags so not only is it not environmentally friendly, but it's becoming harder and harder on the bank account to forget them.

Overall, incorporating a routine that helps you recycle, compost and reduce waste is the best way to sustain an environmentally friendly home and lifestyle.
